Andrew Zukowski, known as Andy, joined the Board of Directors of John Rex Endowment in October 2020. When he moved to the Triangle four years ago to take his current position with UNC Rex Healthcare as Chief Financial Officer, he came from a community in southeast Michigan that had instilled in him the appreciation for diversity and inclusion.

“I came from a highly diverse community in that regard,” Zukowski commented. “When I came to the Triangle, I wanted to continue using that background and experience in this new community, as well as finding ways to increase my own learning and leadership abilities. The invitation to join the board at  John Rex Endowment appealed to me because of their commitment to help shape inclusive change in our community.”

As the father of three children ranging from teens to toddler, Zukowski is passionate about using his financial expertise to help guide the Endowment’s investments in maximizing opportunities for children and families in Wake County. “I believe our mission for 2021 will be clearly communicating our role in the community as we help nonprofits deal with challenges like COVID-19 and social change.

He added, “The time in history is NOW to do impactful work as an organization.”

Zukowski defines a “champion for children” as an individual or organization acting in an unbiased and helpful way to help children achieve the future they deserve, regardless of their background or abilities. “Children are the bright hope of the future,” he commented. “We owe it to them to give them every conceivable step forward to fulfill their potential.”  [11/2020]
