Funding Area: Mental Health, Social and Emotional Well-being

As any parent, doctor, or teacher would say, children are better off all around when they are mentally, socially and emotionally well.  Positive mental health not only influences children’s health and well-being in the present, but also shapes how children grow and develop even into adulthood.  The achievement of positive mental health for many Wake County children, though, is not an easy one. The need is great, and the need for more resources is even greater.

Like many in Wake County, the John Rex Endowment believes that an effective, comprehensive mental health system must include community supports that contribute to the mental health, social and emotional well-being of all children.  Therefore, the John Rex Endowment will focus on improving and increasing the places and spaces that nurture positive mental health for children.  Our Mental Health, Social and Emotional Well-being funding area is detailed in our five-year plan, Our Plan for Impact, 2013-2018.

Our current goalis to develop and enhance the contribution of Wake County children’s places and spaces to the positive mental health of children.
